Winmail.dat to JSON

Export TNEF container metadata and attachment names and sizes as JSON without including binary bytes.

The JSON does not claim RTF/HTML body fidelity. Use ZIP for actual attachment bytes.

Three steps. One less thing to do.

Choose an email file

Open one .eml, .emlx or Winmail.dat container up to 8 MB, or a bounded .mbox mailbox up to 10 MB.

Inspect safely

Browse mailbox messages or read one message's headers, recipients, inert text body and attachment list.

Take the data you need

Download attachment bytes as ZIP or email metadata and text as JSON.

A useful part of your workflow.

Saved message review

Read a downloaded email without importing it into another inbox.

Attachment recovery

Extract the actual files from a MIME message.

Header inspection

Review raw header fields and structured message metadata locally.

Mailbox review

Search a local MBOX message list and open individual messages before exporting data.

A few useful answers.

The details that matter before you use Email File Viewer.

Which formats work?

This version supports individual RFC/MIME .eml messages, Apple Mail .emlx containers, bounded mboxrd .mbox mailboxes and TNEF Winmail.dat by-value attachments. Embedded Outlook/OLE objects and MSG are withheld.

Does HTML email load tracking pixels?

No. HTML is converted to text. Scripts, remote images, CSS, fonts and embedded active content are not loaded.

Are attachments included in JSON?

No. JSON contains attachment metadata and byte counts. Download attachments as a ZIP to get their bytes.

Is the email converted to PDF?

No. A PDF action is withheld until readable layout and attachment policy pass dedicated acceptance.

Does the file leave my device?

No. Parsing and exports run in the browser. Subjects, addresses, headers, bodies and filenames are excluded from analytics.

What are the limits?

One EML/EMLX/TNEF file up to 8 MB or an MBOX mailbox up to 10 MB and 200 messages. TNEF accepts up to 100 by-value attachments and 1,000 attributes. Each MIME message is limited to 8 MB, 100 attachments, bounded nesting and 500,000 body characters. Unsupported or malformed files fail clearly.
